Considering your weight and age, you should probably get a slightly heavier weight to make it where doing 15-20 reps will be hard. Your pretty big for 13, so I think you might be ready for something heavier, but be careful and maybe only jump to 15 or 20 lbs. You need to focus more on the proper way of lifting right now, than already building muscle.
Get a slightly heavier weight and focus on fundamentals and the proper positions. Then slowly add weight as you become more familiar with it.
Also, assisted weights would be good for you as you learn if you have a gym membership. Otherwise, do NOT lift without a spotter who is older and knows how to properly watch over you.
your fine.it's not fat, it's muscle.
If you feel comfortable with lifting 10 lbs., you should go up to 20 lbs. and try that for a little while. Gradually raise the amount of weight you are lifting every so often. Don't try to lift a whole lot in one shot from the beginning, you could end up injuring yourself.
depends on your body and stuff-- if you're really out of shape, 10lbs might not be a bad place to start. but if you're more in shape, then you might be able to lift more. the important thing, i think , is to NOT overdue it. dont lift anything if it hurts or is really uncomfortable. remember, theres nothing wrong with starting small :)
If you can do more than 3 sets of 12 reps without feeling muscle fatigue then you should lift a heavier weight. If you're trying to lose weight however, lifting weights without cardio is only going to make you look heavier.
