The more and more I think about your question, the more I agree with you. I think that society is so wrapped up in saying anorexia and bullimia are bad bad bad and that people kind of treat those who live their lives that way as being really unhealthy and are just generally discriminated against more and looked down upon more than overweight people. Like, you always hear about people wanting to shut down pro-ana and mia sites because people trade tips on them or whatever on how to different things like purge. Maybe people don't see a problem with pro fat websites because they don't trade tips on how to be even fatter or whatever. But it's a good point. I guess people feel sorry for overweight people, cause it's like embrace your curves and stuff, but people don't feel sorry for too-skinny people. It's definitly a double standard. being fat can be just as dangerous as being too skinny. You've brought up a really good question.
Overweight isn't a problem, it's when people become obese that it's a problem. By being overweight you'll have nutrients in your body. But if someone is anorexic they're depriving their body of the nutrients it needs.
I think that Pro Ana is looked down upon because we like to sensationalize all the deaths related to eating disorders. Whenever we start to talk about fat people and their problems we come across as mean and anti fat. We never talk about the extra resources overweight people use up. Such as the extra food they consume, the extra seat on the airplane, the extra health care costs. They should both be either looked down on or upheld, but they won't. People always tend to look down on women who lose weight or make it a priority to stay slim. We love them and hate them because most of society does not have the self control to exercise daily, eat sensibly (or not eat, that is a personal choice) and stay slim themselves.
Both lifestyles are not ok.
Anorexic people are depriving their bodies of critical nutrients.
And for fat people, don't even get me started. It pisses me off when people are proud that they are fat. It's rediculous! Thats like being proud of being a degenerate lazy peice of crap. It just doesnt make sense. 1/3 of the American population is overweight and another 1/3 is considered obese. Even more suprising is that only 2% of those people can contribute their weight to medical conditions such as diabetes or thyroid problems. Their problem is their lifestyle; they are just simply LAZY! It disgusts me that we are the fattest nation in the world.
Also think of this...
The overweight and obese population is costing the US an estimated $98.5 Billion a year in medical expenses! And the BS weight loss pill manufacturers are rolling in the dough.
Think about it fat people. us healthy people don't want to pay for your laziness. put down the bon bons and get on a treadmill.
the way i think of it, they made up "pro-fat" to help fat people gain self esteem, whereas "pro-ana" is more like motivation for anorexic people to stay thin. Either way it is the same.
