How accurate are the calorie meters?

Question:
I was on a stair climber for 30 min on the highest resistance, and about 60-70 rpm, and it said i only burned 400 calories. I wondered if that was about right.

Answers:
I heard they arent real accurate unless you have to put your weight into the machine. I think they are preset to 150 pounds, so if your weight differes you will burn more or less than that. Also if you hold on to the bars and railings that deducts from your total calories burned. I would use them as a kind of guideline, but don't base your work out around calorie meeters.
