Protien Shakes?

Question:
I was thinking of using a whey protein or possibly a whey protien with weight gain to help me build muscle or at least tone up and look better. I am 5 foot 10 inches and weigh 11stone (not much). Are there any drawbacks or health risks with whey protien or with whey protien added weight gain. Are there side effects or will I mess my insides with it?

Answers:
you probably don't notice this, but alot of foods you intake on a daily do contain protein, protein is great stuff for the body, especially when you lift. i intake a protein shake after my hard workouts. protein helps the regeneration of muscles and quicken the process as well. they also help build up mass. "they" say 1gram of protein per pound of body weight, i probably intake less. but protein will NOT hurt you, even if you took a little too much your body won't malfuntion in any sort of way, start inducing the stuff. start looking at the other foods you intake, most do contain protein.
I'm pretty sure you'll be fine, as long as you don't gain weight too quickly-that could give you stretch marks and make you get really sick. Your body won't react negatively if your not gaining more than one or two pounds a week. You might also wanna try to eat more fruit, dairy and nuts. That's a much healthier way to gain weight.
Well ! Nothing comes without side effect in this world my friend. But its not to much till you use it according to any fitness trainer. It will certainly help you to gain weight, And if you go to gym regular then you will gain muscles also. Not a bed idea. Do not over eat. I am a certified personal trainer.
Or find a buddy who goes to gym regular, He will guide you better.
I have had different levels of success with different brands of whey protein, with different side effects as well. Probably the most effective for me was GNC 100% Whey (which is unheard of in the weight training world), and the least effective was EAS.

I would limit your intake of extra protein to, say 20 grams/day at first and see how that agrees with you. I tried doubling that for about a month and ended up pretty ill. I can't be sure that it was the protein, but I tried it twice, and the results were the same (a lot of time in the toilet).

That being said, the 20 g/day I was taking, along with a daily work-out routine (lifing and cardio) seemed to work really well for helping with building lean muscle mass and thereby burning excess fat. Good luck!
