Question:
I am starting to work out again at the local gym and i was wondering: Is swimming a really good thing to do to loose weight? I don't like to run and i heard swimming is just as good.

Answers:
Regular swimming builds endurance, muscle strength and cardio-vascular fitness. It can serve as a cross-training element to your regular workouts. Before a land workout, you can use the pool for a warm-up session. Swimming with increasing effort to gradually increase your heart rate and stimulate your muscle activity is easily accomplished in the water. After a land workout, swimming a few laps can help you cool-down, move blood through your muscles to help them recover, and help you relax as you glide through the water.

Swimming does burn calories at a rate of about 3 calories a mile per pound of bodyweight. If you weigh 150 lbs. and it takes you 30 minutes to swim one mile (1,760 yards or 1,600 meters), then you will be using about 900 calories in one hour. However, many swimmers do not swim that quickly, and many cannot swim for that distance or duration.
.Yes swimming is a quick and fast way to burn calories
swimming is an excellent form of exercise
i hate running i just tred water...like run in water without touching the ground
Swimming is better because your using more of your body. Plus water has more resistance.
Yeah swim and maybe lift weights!
Pilates is amazing too!
Do lots of cardio and cut some calories!
good luck!
oh yeah there so many things you can do with swimming!
add ankle weights, etc
I heard the same thing, because it works all of your body.
Yes you work all the muscles in swimming. That is if you are actually swimming. So yea it helps and is just as good or better. It helps with cardio.
Swimming is the 2nd best cardio you can do. Sex comes first.
Swimming is great exercise! You work more muscles swimming. Good luck!
swimming is one of the best exercises you can do. i don't like running either. i like bike riding too you should try that too, or an eliptical machine
Anything that gets your heart rate up will burn calories. Swimming is an especially healthy exercise (if you're a good enough swimmer to go for long enough at a good pace) because there's no impact on your joints.
yeah, swimming is very good for your joints whereas there's a lot of impact with running. if you swim and push yourself, not like the lazy people who hang around together andn chat, then you'll get some good cardio
swimming is an excellent way to loose
wieght it is also a fun way
doing laps in a big pool back and forth is good
so is playing water sports such as water polo or just pssing the ball around
any workout in the water is good =]
Swimming is great since you using all the different muscles in your body and are burning lots of calories if swimming lapses or doing regular exercises in water. Good for your joints too. Good luck and keep exercising
yes because it's aerobic. Good for you. I can't seem to get back at it. I worked so hard to two years and lost nothing. I even walked 4 miles a day. Age probably. Anyway - good Luck

swimming is one of the best, even better than running. It works all your muscles, so it not only helps you lose weight, but tones the entire body.
