Why am I gaining weight instead of losing since I started a serious exercise program?

You are likely gaining muscle weight but what you also have to remember is to watch your diet when you exercise. Low fat foods, lots of vegetables, high fiber foods & protein. Stay away from the bread !!

Sometimes when we first start an exercise program we start to get a bit careless with our diets thinking that we will burn it off the next time we go to the gym. Wrong thinking !!
maybe u lost some weight but then gained muscle
muscle mass....
You're building muscle
muscle weighs more than fat.
If your building muscle than this is why. Muscle weights more than fat. You could also be retaining water weight which is normal for most when they just start a new routine.
Its muscle that your gainning, not fat :)
when u work out alot your fat turns into muscle, which is heavier than fat, so it is normal if u gain a couple pounds.
you are turning alot of that fat into muscle and it is going to take a little bit before you actually start seeing the results you want to see.Just don't stop your exercise program.
I don't know how long you've been on your exercise program but I'd say if you've been on it for a period of time and still not losing weight, you probably need to see a doctor and have a complete checkup....you may need to have your thyroid looked at, sometimes this will cause you to gain weight! Best of luck!
You should try doing more cardio. It's possible that the type of excercise you are doing is for the most part building muscle, rather tham burning fat. I would try talking to a personal trainer about your goals. He or she should be able to help you work out a plan that will work for you. :)
If you consume a cube of sugar, then excercise for 20 minutes, you will burn 1/8 of that cube of sugar.
Don't eat sugar.

Saw that somewhere.
Muscle weighs more than fat...cardio is key. Rather than "gaining" muscle, you'll burn calories and lose weight.
that's normal. you're turning fat into muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. during this stage, it is better to measure yourself through the clothes you wear. gaining more doesn't mean you become wider in size. check out your pants, they may feel looser. =)

keep up the good work!
you are exercising and it is all muscle mass.you are actually gaining weight but since the fat you have is muscle now you are getting skinnier.good luck
