HELP! How can I stop obsessing about food?


Question:
I seriously do live to eat -- not eat to live. It's not that I am really fat or anything. I'm pretty average sized.

But I look around at so many really overweight people, and I can see this happening to me.

I know about eating right and working out and all that (that's how I stay the size I am!).

What I need help with is what's in my head. Every day I have to stop myself from getting an egg mcmuffin for breakfast, and talk myself out of fries at lunch. Every day I think about what I am going to get to eat, like it's the biggest thing in my day.

How can I change the way I think about food?

You're just like me. I don't think I'll every gain weight & I'm rather skinny but. I do exactly what you do. I think about it ALL THE TIME. It's annoying isn't it?

Beginning of every day I'll automatically start planning what to eat and calorie counting it. But I'm getting much better now. What I do is just keep myself busy. Keep my mind as busy as I can so I can't think about it. I'll exercise and I won't think about anything but that. Or I'll draw, watch tv, read a book - ANYTHING. And if you find yourself thinking about food again, mentally slap yourself. Or if you want you can even wear a rubberband and pull it to snap you when you think about food.

I understand how unbelievably horrible it is and how it's like second nature. And when you're about to it. To stop thinking about what and how much you're going to eat. Well you know what unhealthy food is, so you should stay away from that by instinct. But then again - It's OK to have those little yummies once in a while. Go eat pizza or fries or whatever 1 a month.

Ok. Are yo thinking about that egg mcmuffin. Go get one once a week. And eat half in the morning with a piece of fruit. And save the rest for later. Not putting on weight doesn't necessarily mean you can't eat what you want. You can. But if its something that you're scared can make you fat - then eat it at small portions. So you don't have to think that much when you eat. You can eat whatever you want but all in small portions.

start doing stuff around the house maybe u'll find something you enjoy more then food. Uhm also if you don't NEED it then u can drink a glass of water or brush your teeth, that get's rid of craving and things, and uhm also when ur talking urself outta things say stuff like: I don't need it right now. It's not becoming extinct by tonite. Pizza will always be here, French Fries will not go outta style by tomorrow
i think you should go see your doctor, or call the doctor, & see if he can put you on a diet, or if he can have a look at your BMI and see if you are in danger, and if your not, maby you could keep on eating, but go swimming once or twice a week.. or go to yoga, jogging, gym, dance..
Or just have a balanced diet, eat a vareity of foods rather than just all fatty food, or all sugary foods..
Look at a fry, and think of it as a thin greasy thing that can cause heart problems in an excess. So some fries never hurt anyone, but a lot can be harmful. Picture fries as being individual cigarettes. I know fries aren't as bad as cigarettes, but it can be kind of nasty if you think of them that way. . lol.

Every time you get this craving, go outside and walk for 10 minutes, or listen to music and listen to the words and repeat them in your head. This way you are distracted from food.

Well heres something thats helped me... watch superisze me, seriously. When you think about whats actually in the food and what you are putting into your body itll actually make you not want to eat all the gross stuff anymore. Also get the book YOU: On a Diet by Dr. Oz somthing. Its not a diet book, it just explains what happens to the food that you put in your body. Really explains it too. You wont be wanting McD's anymore either. I havent eaten Mcd's in probably over a year just cuz nothing healthy comes from there, except the salads if you dont use the salad dressing.
You said you workout.thats good, then you really do care about your body so when you want those fries just think that if you didnt eat them but still did your sit ups or whatever then how many extra calories you will burn and if you cut out the bad foods and keep up with the workout how much better your body will look, and not only because of weight loss but because you are healthy. You will feel so much better through out the day.
Oh yeah you could start with drinking only water instead of whatever else. I used to drink only diet stuff and never water. I hated water, I probably didnt even drink one glass of water a year, but one day I bought a case of water then from then on I havent drank anything but water.
