Running/jogging actually is one of the best things you can do to build them.
Stand on something about two feet off the ground. Jump off, and as soon as you land bounce back up onto the object. repeat frequently.
calf raises... stand on your tippie toes (keep most of the weight on your big toes, don't let your ankle turn out), and then return... You should also do this with your heels hanging off a ledge, like a step... so you can stretch the calf more when you come down from the flex.
You can add weight with a barbell or dumbbells.
Also, there is a calf raise machine at the gym that you sit on and put your knees under a cushioned bar. You can add weight to this machine without straining your arms or shoulders.
Lunges will also make your calves work... but they are not the focus of this exercise... they are only a supporting muscle.
