Is it possible to give up eating, and live on supplements alone?

Question:

Answers:
That's kind of a yes/no answer..

It is possible to do that, as some people are forced to at times (those that can't chew/swallow, people on IVs, people in comas, etc). but it's not a healthy way to live.

First of all, it's in the name of them. "supplements" means that they are something to supplement your diet (to be in addition to), so they are not intended to replace meals. However, if you picked out enough of all the required nutrients (vitamins, minerals, enzymes, probiotics, etc), you still would be missing a lot of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and fats, all of which you need a minimum of to maintain basic health.

However, if you really got down to it and took a few dozen pills 2-3 times a day, plus a protein powder, plus a fiber powder, plus some natural fats (healthy oils, for example... you need some cholesterol in your diet), plus some source of carbohydrates, THEN you might be able to have those replace your food.
If you were able to find all that, most people would find eating easier and more enjoyable. plus you are still lacking some things that food give you (like substance, for example, so you'll feel hungry most of the time).

It's not healthy enough that you could do it for very long.
Definitely not. Otherwise people would have done so already.
Sure -- if those supplements included adequate calories and hyrdations.

People are kept alive on IVs.
Nope.
Supplements can be good, but we need all the other little bits in food for our bodys to absorb them. Plus our bodies do best with the most natural products. The more they've been proccessed the less our bodies like them.
