why not try a healthy diet eat oranges, drink orange juice or even ribeana squash they all contain vitamin C
vitamin D sunlight on the skin or by taking fortified foods such as soya milk, margarine (all of which are fortified by law in the UK), breakfast cereals

I tried "hair, nails & skin" from Holland & Barrets but they didn't make any difference. Kelp is good for hair.

Sorry but vitamins done ' boost ' anything. You cannot utilise more than your RDA. If you take superfluous water soluble vitamins they are just peed out, however there are some concerns that doses of 500mgs a day and more of vitamin C may be carcinogenic. Extra fat soluble cannot be excreted so they accumulate vitamin A becomes toxic to the eyes and vitamin D to the kidneys.
