Its a good start. Start a bit easier the first week, then increase little by little after that.
The object is continue, feel better, look better. Excessive exercise and pain will make you stop.
If it hurts and you only did 20 crunches, then that is a good machine!!
it's hurting because your out of shape and you are not use to it yet. Just lay of it a little or just fight the pain and keep going

Well there is a difference between pain and soreness.. If your in pain then you need to find a new exercise but if your sore.. stick to it... abs can be done everyday!!
It is a sign of ur muscles being idle for a long time.
Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry. It is however to be noted that one cannot change the shape or size of different parts of the body.
