Anyone heard of 4th teeth gettin pulled out at same time?

Question:
I went to a dentist i don't normally go to and he wants to pull 4 at one time. There are 2 in the back that are in my gums and i have never heard of a regular dentist doing this. He is not going to put me to sleep, he is only going to numb me. Should i let him do he 2 in the back that are in my gums? is it safe ?

Answers:
I'm a dentist.

I'm assuming you are referring to your wisdom teeth (i.e. 3rd molars).

I do not sedate patients in my office. I peform the procedure under local anesthesia with nitrous oxide (laughing gas), and generally have very good results. Patient selection is key, however. Some patients I can tell will cause trouble, and these patients I send to the oral surgeon for sedation.

As far as the procedure goes, it's up to the doctor to decide what he is comfortable doing. Since I've had training in oral surgery, I am pefectly comfortable taking out full-bony impacted wisdom teeth. Some of my colleagues, however, are not trained and thus send these cases to me.

And yes, all four at once. We do this in order to minimize the number of surgical insults to your body. One extraction site heals no faster than four.

Other Answers:
sure, I got all my wisdoms done at once, better to get it over with!

I actually had 5 taken out at once as a kid, one of them a baby one still then the adult one beneath it, plus 3 more adult teeth. They took them because I have a small jaw and my teeth were too squished together and I needed braces to get them back in the right place.

So I guess it's safe since I'm still here. lol

If they are completely impacted and not coming through your gums at all, I would NOT let him pull them.
As for pulling 4 at a time, that's probably ok, I've had 3 pulled at once and people who get dentures have them all pulled at once.

I've had 8 removed at one time (small mouth- hold the jokes)- hey, it's a great weight loss plan! It's fine, your dentist should know what he's doing. If you don't trust him though, go see another dentist. I've heard of this before. If you are concerned, get a second opinion. The teeth are prolly not that far beneath the gum so it isn't necessary to put you to sleep and put your entire body through that trauma.

Yes, let him pull all 4. It's not unusual at all. You don't need to be put to sleep unless you are that big a sissy *smile*

Sure its safe and cheaper, only one doctor's visit

This is normal procedure for wisdom teeth especially those that are compacted (partially or totally under the gum-line). You'll be fine. Always get a second opinion when it comes to something for you that you really don't feel right about.
It doesn't matter what "anyone" might say.
Go to a reputable dentist..and then another.
You have to feel confident, trusting and informed.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at once. All four were impacted and in the gum. He gave me the option of novacaine or to be put under. I opted to get knocked out because he said that he would probably have to crush the tooth and pick out the pieces. Heck no did I want to be awake for that!
Everything went great and I didn't have any major problems :)

I had four teeth pulled before they put in my braces then I had my wisdom teeth pulled after I had them removed. It sucked booth times, but the percocets where great! I'm not quite sure about this, so don't take my word for it, but if the 4 teeth are your wisdom teeth, then it should be okay for your dentist to pull them out all at once.

One of my close friends had all of her wisdom teeth pulled out at once, and her dentist only used Novacaine as well. She said that after the Novacaine wore off her gums and jaw were pretty sore, but that went away in a week or so. In the meantime, she stuck to mainly liquids and soft foods, and had to rinse out the holes left in her gums with an eye dropper after every meal. Otherwise, she was fine, and the holes closed up after about 3 weeks or so.

Just in case, you might want to do a little research yourself. Good luck with your tooth pulling! :)

i had 5 teeth pulled today and they put me on an iv and all of that fun stuff.. long term the one in your gums might cauce problems I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out at once.

it's totally safe..I've gotten that many out before

i got 4 teeth taken out today because i just got braces on monday & i have crowding . don`t worry . i wasn't asleep just my mouth & i was numb for a while . but i just took a nap & even went to my night class . it's better to get them all over with . the pain depends on your dentist . i felt NOTHiNG with mine because he numbed me REAL good and even used laughing gas.
