Answers:
Cortisone does remain as one of the main treatments of psoriasis. Consider using it in combination with other treatments, that way you may not have to use it as much or every day for that matter.
Calcipotriene (cream, ointment, lotion) is an alternate to cortisone, and its efficacy is comparable to a mid level cortisone.
For scalp psoriasis, various dandruff shampoos without steroids can be tried.
Ultraviolet light is another option, if the psorasis is localized, there are machines that only expose the hands and feet. Now there is a laser based on UVB called excimer that may be useful in localized psoriasis.
For more severe cases there are newer medications available which are injected once or twice weekly almost like insulin shots. The names include enbrel, humira, remicade (needs an iv infucion usually once a month), raptiva, amevive.
