Child of seven needs injection at dentist?
Question:
need good advice to calm him down.
Answers:
Ask your dentist to put some topical anaesthetic on your childs gum first, this will stop the injection from hurting. It works really well, if i ever need any treatment i always ask for it!
WHY does he need injections at the dentist? I hope you aren't being scammed. There are dentists out there that put kids under terrible procedures on their BABY TEETH, which is totally unnecessary. They will fall out on their own. Please get a second opinion on any dental procedures for your son.
The more freaked out you are, the more he will be. My daughter is 6 and has had novacian on a few occasions. They numb the cheek with a gel for quite some time so that they won't feel the needle. They usually don't let the kids look at it either so most of the time they don't even realize they are getting a huge shot in their mouth.
Don't panic and just nonchalantly tell him they will numb his mouth with gel. He'll probably never even know it happened.
sounds like a scam! i am eighteen and was told by numerous dentists that i had cavities and needed braces and all sorts of surgeries when i was younger. when i was twelve i got a new honest dentist and was told they were all lying! hes very honest and helpful, so make sure he is telling the truth
well i have had the injection in my gum and it was numbed i didnt feel a thing but i didnt see it before i had it!
my brother saw me have it done and then had to have it doen after me and he was terrified! when i saw it i realised i would have been too so make sure he doesnt see it!
it hurt my brother but i think that was because he was expecting it to from seeing it, it also hurt when he had it in the roof of his mouth which i am told is the worst injection in the mouth.
i would just try and be strong for him, my mum always tells me to be brave and stick it out. tell him you will reward him with something after for being so brave it will give him something to look forward to.
it will be ok it last a matter of seconds.
I used to be terrified of the dental injections, but my dentist was great. He would rub the topical anesthetic on my gums and then he would always tell me to close my eyes because he was going to pinch my lip to see if I was numb yet. I didn't know until YEARS later (I was fully grown) that while I was focusing on him pinching my lip with one hand, he was giving me an injection with the other! Sneaky genius, that dentist! I never even saw the syringe! My best advice is to find a pediatric dentist if you don't already have one. They know all the tricks in the book and the staff is specially trained for working with scared children. :o)
What treatment is he having? My six year old daughter, who is terrified, had a filling a couple of weeks ago, our dentist just cleaned it out a bit then filled with this stuff and set it with a blue light that hummed like a hairdryer. I am also scared of the dentist, last time I had to go I was asked to bite on a small sponge type thing that started to numb the gum before the injection and didn't really feel it.
I sat on the chair and my daughter laid back on me, this made it easier for her because I was holding her. My dentist told me that is how they do children's fillings, if this is any help.
The dentist is a BIG problem for me too, im terrified. I found a dentist that uses sedation and my nose is so small that he gives me the children's version, its a small tube that they attach to your nose and it smells kind of like strawberry's, sweet. A couple of minutes with this on and he;ll be fine i promise you !
