Should anyone who is allergic to codeine be prescribed hydroco/apa 5-500m?

Question:

Answers:
They are completely different medications.

I am allergic to codeine, but I can take hydroco/apa 5-500m (aka vicodin)

Other Answers:
"Hydroco" in this formula is hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is not codeine, but it is closely related. Personally, if a patient told me that they were allergic to codeine, I would not prescribe hydrocodone. If you had an allergic reaction to codeine with redness, rash, itching and/or difficulty breathing, I would not take hydrocodone.

Many people say (or were told) that they are allergic to codeine when they really only had a stomach reaction. If you had stomach upset or nausea, hydrocodone may be all right for you. It is easier on the stomach than codeine.
no, not at all, ask your doctor for a different pain killer.
