How do you know you don't have gingivitis? Have you seen a dentist?

Hard toothbrushes can be abraisive and can wear your tooth enamal and damage soft tissue. Most dentists would tell you to avoid mouth washes containing alcohol, like Listerine. There are plenty of good rinses that do not contain mouth-drying alcohol.

Switch to a soft toothbrush, or invest in a good electric one such as Sonicare or Oral B.

Make an appointment to see your dental hygienist ASAP and let them help you stop and reverse the recession.
If you are young, this is not good. Receeding gum lines can cause more tooth decay, as the gum goes below the enamel line. In younger people, it is usually from poor brushing and no flossing.. If you are doing good brushing and flossing, it could be from trauma, brushing too hard!! Use a 'soft' style brush, see a Dentist, and use the 'Bass' method of brushing.. (Brush down on top teeth, brush up on the bottom teeth.) Brush twice a day easily and thouroughly.
