expanders...?

Question:
i dont have the whole thing in yet, just the little bands they put around your teeth. i only have them on my top teeth, but the bands hurt! has anyone else had this much pain with the bands? i just got them put in this morning. i can barely eat. when i have the whole thing put in and have to turn it or whatever, do i turn it myself and does it hurt? also, is this all gonna leave me with a huge gap? cause that exactly what i dont want. im getting braces after the expander tho.

Answers:
No, its not a huge gap. And most of the time when you leave the orthodontist's office you will feel pain for 2 days. It was hard for me to eat fro like 3 days after each orthodontist appointment. I guess all I can say is Tylenol.
Its a pain in the butt to turn the expander, my mom had to do it for me 'cuz I could never find the little hole. It doesn't hurt when its being turned, its just hard to get that little wire key in the hole, thats why my mom helped me.
You'll have a great smile in the end.

i had and expander to.......I HATE THOSE THINGS!!!
The bands will definitely be sore for a few days. I ate a lot of "soft foods" for at least 3-4 days after I got them in. I personally thought the bands hurt more than the braces themselves. Just take some advil. The expander does not hurt, it just feels strange to have in your mouth and causes you to talk a little funny at first. I turned mine every week and I would sometimes get a headache after, so I would again just take advil. Don't worry about the gaps because those will be closed when you get your braces.
When you get it in, it will feel awkward. It will be hard to swallow, and you will salivate a lot more. Talking is hard at first, but it gets better. Eating the first few days is very hard. Food always gets stuck at the top of it. Swishing with water and using a toothpick helps. Also, when you turn it the first few times it hurts. After that all you feel more of an uncomfortable pushing feeling. It hurts less and less every turn. I'm not going to lie, you will have a huge gap between your two front teeth(or at least I did). I could probably fit another tooth between the two. That starts to close up after you are done turning it. I had to turn it for about two weeks, two turns a day. Hope this helps.
