What is a wisdom tooth?
Question:
Answers:
The last molars to grow in, which they usually grow in when the person is in their early 20s. They're called "wisdom" teeth because they grow in when you're a little more "wise" and can take better care of your teeth. Some dentists theorize that they are like "back-up" teeth. In the early years, before dentists, fillings and tooth paste, the wisdom teeth would grow in after several of the front teeth had rotted away and fallen out due to poor dental care. These teeth would then move forward to replace the lost teeth. Another theory is that in the early years, humans had larger mouths and needer more teeth to chew the meats and other primitive foods that used to be eaten. Nowadays, with better healthcare and easier to digest foods, they're not neccessary, so they're removed as soon as they start to grow in, or else they'd cause a lot of pain because most human jaws aren't big enough to accomodate them.
I just got one taken out not too long ago (the other 3 haven't even started to grow in yet), it hurts but it isn't too bad. They used some novacain to numb the area then just pulled it. I barely even felt it as it grew in and didn't mind the extraction. I just knew what it was and that it could cause complications if I left it stay there. If you start to grow new teeth in your late teens/early 20s, ask your dentist to remove them. If allowed to grow in all the way, they could push all your other teeth forward and can mess up their alignment, making you need braces. Some people are lucky, and these teeth never grow in. Other people start developing severe headaches and jaw pain and have to have their gums cut open and the teeth removed before they even grow in. And yet other people have no problem letting them grow in and keeping them because their jaws are big enough to accomodate them.

A molar that doesn't come in until late teens/early twenties, if ever. It is in the very back of the mouth.
It's the very last molar that comes into your mouth. It can hurt coming in and if its too big (most peoples are) then you have to have it/ them removed. Some people's don't even come in.
It is a molar that comes in around your teens. They call it a "wisdom" tooth because if you have them you have been around a little longer. Most dentists will pester you to get them removed because most people don't actually have room in their jawline for them. They don't generally break the surface until your twenties or so. They remain under the gums for a long time. Wisdom teeth are just teeth that grow in around your early twenties. They form close to the back of your mouth.
The last 2 teeth on the top and bottom on both sides. They usually come in when you're a teenager or older. They hurt like heck to come in, and take forever! Once they're in they usually rot out quickly because they're so far back and hard to care for. Most people end up having to get them pulled.
Everyone told you what they were, and where they grow, but no one told you they hurt like hell thats how you know they are growing in. smile
They're considered "third molars" that start to grow way in the back of your normal molars when you're in your late teens, somtimes earlier or later. Some people get them and the lucky ones don't. When they become impacted, or grow sideways they push against your other teeth and that's generally when you need to remove them because it can get really painful!
