I want to break my own face to just get my mind off the toothache! HELP!!!!?
Question:
I have a stomach ulcer and was hospitalized last year because I took asperin to help with the pain (didn't know about the ulcer at the time), and now, the ONLY over-the-counter medicine I can take is Tylenol. And Tylenol is worthless when up against the pain that has kept me up for two days.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this done sooner? If I go to the ER, would someone at the hospital be able to remove the tooth?
Answers:
They can't do this in the ER. They might refer you to the oral surgery department if it is a major teaching hospital and you would be seen quicker.
An oral surgeon NEEDS to have a consult with you, because they don't know if they need to save 20 minutes or 2 hours without seeing you first. They need to discuss any risks with you so that you can make an informed decision about the surgery.
It's hard to imagine having to wait "months" to see an oral surgeon unless you have a very restrictive insurance plan. Check for another surgeon or ask, "How soon could you see me if I paid full price out of pocket?" This is called, "Learning About HMO Coverage the Hard Way."
In the meantime, for the weekend, sleep on an extra pillow to elevate your head. Sleep on the side that does NOT have a toothache. If that doesn't work, you can move to a recliner or the sofa so you can keep your head really elevated. This will minimize the blood flow to the area and therefore minimize the throbbing and pain. This might help you make it through the night until you can see a dentist.
Go to the store and buy some clover. Cut a small piece and put in into the sore spot. This will make life more bearable until something can be done. Thank me later.
