Has anyone had scaling and root planing done and if you did how long did the treatment take and was it painful

Question:
Dentist has recommeneded that I have scaling and root planing prior to getting a new Maryland Bridge, veneers, or braces? I have heard it is painful but never talked to anyone that actually had it done just people who claim ot know of a friend or family member that said it was painful. I would prefer to get information from someone that has actually had it done.

Answers:
I recently had scaling done on my entire mouth. This takes 2 appointments. The dentist will give you a local anesthetic (piece of cake). The procedure DOES NOT hurt at all. The worst part is the noise. It sounds like scraping. Each visit took a couple hours, maybe because my dentist used his instrument and also did scraping with a water irrigator. Make sure you eat before the appointment because it will be difficult to do so afterwards, because your mouth is numb. It took a lot of concentration and time to eat dinner after my treatment. Simply put, there is NO pain involved and the numbness is only temporary. It is important to get all the plaque off of your teeth, so don't hesitate to have this procedure done.
Had BOTH,PIECE OF CAKE. just HAVE LOCAL ANESTHETIC
