People who have had a Rapid Palatal Expander?

Question:
what were some of the physical side effects from the treatment? did your face and nose look wider than before? how did it change your external appearance? can i get some details?

i know some people say "no one will notice" but i know i sure will. i want to be prepared.

Answers:
I have one right now! okay, well, you will have this little space in between your teeth, but before that happens, you will notice that your two front teeth will start to hurt, and if you press on your nose hard enough, it will hurt. But the space in between your two front teeth will close up again naturally so don't worry about it. That just means it is working, but your teeth might still be hurting. And you can take any pain medicine if it hurts that bad. It won't mess your expander any. So far, all it's done to me was expand my upper jaw, and your nose and face will not look any wider.

Trust me, you will notice nothing!!! I am a dental asst and see this all the time. My boyfriend just got his removed (because he was done with the treatment) and there are no side effects what so ever.

I had a big gap between my two front teeth. It kinda happened overnight! but it doesnt really hurt and it will close up once you get the braces on.
good luck!
