First off, when you go to school (college)... EVERY class is important! You have to be accepted into Dental School and thats after you've completed your norm/usually academics and so on... They notice bad marks/grades on your transcript, they wont waste their time on you. The Dental Field, is still a medicial type field. They expect no less out of you, than they do any other student aiming to become a Doctor. After all, A Dentist is a Doctor! You want the pay and the title.... Do your absolute best... Or dont bother!
You must have an understanding of biology and chemistry. But, in my opinion, you absolutely have to be able to work with your hands. In dentistry, you're often required to make movements with a handpiece (drill) that are less than 0.1 mm. That is really small and requires precise control.
I would suggest you do your best and get a thorough understanding of biology, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, psychology, and that you take courses in three dimensional art like sculpting and jewelry making.
