Adult braces?

Question:
I'm 31 years old and am contemplating braces or invisalign. My teeth aren't supercrooked but they could be straighter. I wanted to get input from other adults who have gone through the process. I'd like to get an idea of:
1. Timeline invisalign vs. braces. Which is faster?
2. Typical cost (my realistic budget is up to $5K)
3. Any issues that I should ask or be aware of?
4. Any recommendations on who do use? (I live in Irvine, CA)

Answers:
I just got my top braces off in May and I still have the bottom ones on...I got the regular metal kind because I didn't have to wear them but a year and a half and it was cheaper that way(my teeth were not too crooked, but I got the braces for TMJ purposes)...my braces were $2,400...you can get the ceramic ones which are white, but they are more expensive and I had heard they are more maintaince and cut you worse than the metal ones...and I got cut pretty good with the metal ones...I don't know much about invisialign...my sister's friend has them and she really likes them...I hope this helps

My old 40 something year old bus driver had them. She looked fine plus they where helping her teeth. Anyway braces work better. I had them a few years ago. They have the clear braces also.
Well, I don't know anything about Invisalign other than it's awsome. I had real braces and it took a few years. I think as an adult it would be best to try the less noticeable braces.
Just go with braces, its ok, its not how u look with them, but what you'll look like when u get them taken off.
1. Braces are faster, but depending on the severity of your teeth positions, either is fine
2. Braces might be cheaper, however, it varies depending on how experienced the orthodontist is with the Invisalign or if it's even an option
3. Just some pain here and there. Braces can break off your teeth. The Invisalign retainers can scratch or break/crack causing irritation
4. Can't help you there, call around.
Go for the braces! They are a nuisance but worth it! I don't know much about invisalign exceot to day that for me personally that I wouldn't want to be able to take them off. Probably wouldn't actually wear them like I should (just me personally though). I would definitely do research on your orthodontist! If your teeth are moved too quickly then there's the possibilty of killing the tooth (it's ALOT more common in adults than kids cuz teeth are already "set"). If you see several dentists and one says it'll be 9 months and the other says 2 yrs-- I would be concerned! Rule of thumb: slower teeth are moved, safer it is!
I had the clear glue-on braces when I was 30, and I would recommend regular braces vs. the invisalign or clear plastic version of braces. The clear plastic becomes discolored, so you lose the advantage of "less noticeable". Also they take longer, so you are inconvenienced longer. Also, the clear plastic glue-ons can "pop" off your tooth, and require an emergency trip to the orthodontist. Once your teeth have begun to move into alignment, you may be able to switch successfully to the invisalign, but you REALLY want to get them moving first, then keep them moving with whatever system you choose. Some people's teeth are more strongly rooted than others, so if you are one of those, you may have to start them like my younger brother did, by lightly banging on them with his own fist to loosen them so the braces could work. This is probably something you need to ask your orthodontist. And if your orthodontist is resistant to any of your input, find a different one. Best wishes! (Tin grins are in!)
Go to your orthodontist for a consultation. A consultation is usually free. Go to a couple different ones if you like. See who your dentist recommends.
Your orthodontist can tell you if you are a canidate for Invisalign or not. If you are, it will work for you just as well as traditional braces.
I would also listen for the Orthodontist that discusses proper alignment and function of your teeth as well as the appearance of your smile.
It's all about "occlusion", I'm telling ya.
