Dont be worried. At your first appt all they are going to do is take two xrays, a cephalometric tracing and a panoramic xray. Then they will take a few photographs of you smiling and your profile, and a few impressions. Where they put this play dough silly putty in your mouth to make a mold of your teeth. Nothing to worry about, its gonna be a breeze! And just think of how beautiful you will be when you get through with the braces! Good luck, hope this helps!
they use a blue UV light over your mouth for a long time. (sorry i am not technical never had braces)i belive spread your lips really far apart. The brackets can be glued or cemented on.they insert wires.
i got invisible braces. you can't see if I'm wearing braces or not.
Take a CD player or mp3 player you will be there about 2 hrs. but they will give you brakes after the do the upper or lower arch. the brackets are put on with ortho cement that will come off after the treatment is finished. it is important to keep your teeth clean while in brackets or they will scare your teeth so good oral hygiene is important. don't be scared to ask questions about your treatment or procedures they are your teeth and you have the right to know what is going on in your own mouth
I had braces for 4 years. You may have already had xrays and molds done, if not that is easy! Once they do those then you will have app't. for applying braces. It can take some time! They will put in lip spreaders to keep your lips out of the way (doesn't hurt but you look funny) They will clean teeth really good and then start etching process (does not hurt, tastes odd). Then they will start bonding brackets to your teeth. Mine started in back with bands around molars, and then worked forward putting on brackets. This is what takes a long time, couple hours. Then the ortho. will fit archwires to top and bottom teeth and attach them with little ligatures (rubber bands) to the brackets (make sure you get color you want!). That is the basics, you may need other things like elastics, but they will tell you.
Your jaws will be sore as teeth adjust, but usually tylenol is all that is needed. The inside of your mouth may get tender from brackets rubbing, mine toughened up in a couple weeks. If you have a problem with a certain spot ask ortho. to fix its position or give you some wax to put on that bracket.
You will adjust to them very quickly and it is not terrible at all! Smile big and show them off! Good Luck!
first they prep your teeth then they glue on the brackets, then they fit a wire to your mouth, and put rubber bands on the brackets so that the wire stays there. That's it. The glue is absolutely the worst part. take a pain killer before you get there because the pressure feels different and you might want to bite down on something like a baby teething thing. And last but not least bring a mp3/CD player, chances are that they will be glad to let you listen to it.
