root canal pain?

Question:
i got a root canal done about 5 months ago. i never had a problem with it. i just chewed gum and now it hurts really bad this only happens when i chew gum. how can i get rid of the pain and why does it hurt only when i chew gum?

Answers:
the gum make be sending too much sugar or pressure to the tooth. the main problem of concern - you should not really be feeling that type of sensitivity. there could be a pocket or part of the root still there. they mayhave only removed one of the roots and left the others in - some do that to leave partial. you cna also try sensodyne toothpaste. i have one that will throb when i eat ice cream -it's the bone below the tooth. also if it's a lower tooth - the nerve endings are different than an upper. uppers have their own nerves while the lower - one nerve for each side. so if it's a lower - it could be pain from another tooth next to it.
sensitive to sweet, you should go to the dentist to make sure it is not on the adjacent tooth first, then have them re check there root canal tooth with an xray and make sure a canal was not missed in the original root canal, some teeth have hidden canals and are not located initially
