Do braces hurt?

I going to have to get braces, and everyone i know has told me they hurt to get on. I dont go well with pain. I'm accually a drama queen when it comes to pain. Do they really hurt?

well only the first 3 days. for me that is. while they put on the little square brackets they don't hurt. they don't pu t the wires until a week or so late. after they put the wires in it may feel a little bit tight and uncomfortable. although it was hard to eat anything exept soup for a couple of days. you'll survive. after the first week there is no pain at all.

It depends,if you have a good Orthodontist they shouldn't hurt at all.

They do hurt for a brief time. and will hurt when you get them tightened. I always used ibuprofen at least a hour before I got mine tightened and that seemed to help with pain. Talk to your dentist/orthodontist about your fears and he'll help you.

well they hurt at first but thin the pain will go away but u can get ones that you take out to eat they are plastic and they cost more but they hurt less

do U get offended if someone offers u a mint? as in, you have bath breath? or do u just take it and smile?

yea a bit after they get finished. it feels like you mouth is swollen kinda but you will be ok.

It only hurts when the orthodontist tightens them (once a month). An over the counter analgesic (Tylenol, Advil, etc.) will help that. I had braces for 3 years. It wasn't that bad.
