if my tooth is already inflamed, will they be able to get me numb to do the root canal?

Question:
this will be the 2nd time to get a root canal on the same tooth.

Answers:
DON'T let anyone work on that tooth until you complete a round of antibiotics for the inflammation ! To disturb that infection is dangerous....it can spread to the brain or other parts of the body.

As far as numbing....sure, no problem...because there IS no nerve in the tooth....

if its inflamed they may put you on antibotics first then schedule the root canal later
you have to take antibiotics for like a week first and douche your mouth with hydrogen peroxide 3 times a day a least . It will make the inflamation go buh-bye
There are a few dentists who answer questions on this site and they can do a better job than me, but here goes:

A tooth that is infected makes an environment which neutralizes anesthetic. In other words, the infection "eats" the pain killing injection.

Even after a root canal, there can be nerves around the tooth which are still "hot". The reason for a re-treat is that some of the nerve remains or the canal has not been completely filled.

This does not mean the dentist is stupid, these canals are tiny and often hard to see because of curves in the root.

Most root canal doctors (endodontists) will tell you this in writing: "Root Canal Therapy is an attempt to save a compromised tooth..." In other words, you're probably gonna lose the thing anyway, but maybe we can keep it in your head.

If you could go back in time - and I can't say this strongly enough - please, please see your dentist regularly to avoid this sort of thing. Chances are he/she will catch a problem before it gets so bad.
please not that anaesthesia will never work in an infected tissue .. what hurts you not the tooth nerve but the tissue surrounding the roots .. which could be inflammed due to pocket source .. or from a reminant pat of the removed roots .. be quiet and wait till the inflammation is gine using antibiotics anti inflammatories and pain killers .. then your endodontist should start redoing the root canal filling ..
