Does your retainer stink when its in your mouth for awhile?

I brush my teeth like 5 times or more a day because i have a retainer in right now, Its one of those clear ones that look like those invisaline braces, and it traps in spit inside and when i take it out, it stinks even though i brush my teeth a lot and use mouth wash and i wash the retainer itself.

use denture cleaner sounds weird but it does work. I soaked my retainer in it EVERY day to keep the smell at bay, I only wore my retainer during the night.

yeup I have one too. Its unfortunate. It especially happens after i have eaten something and when I take it out i get a horrible taste from the food that got under. I have to put it in a glass of water as soon as i take it out or else ants smell it .. little bastids.

Its worse if you have a dry mouth. Try drinking lots of water; perhaps you are slightly dehydrated.

Another thing you could try is Flossing as the bacteria between your teeth contribute alot to bad breath and that may be part of the problem. Also try brushing your tongue as plaque loves to grow around the tastebuds on your tongue

I have had my braces off for something like 7 years but I still sleep with my retainer. Even after a night it does not "stink" so bad, then again I don't really get morning or bad breath. Do drink plenty of water -- it is one thing that controls bad breath naturally. Do not ever eat or drink anything (but water) while you are wearing the retainer. I know it can be tempting, but try to control it.

Even if you brush your teeth alot of times, the smell won't go off because the stink comes from your retainer and not your teeth. The stink is of course from the bacteria which comes from plaque. Take your retainer out before eating and after to rinse it under water. It's even better to rinse it in mouthwash. Rinse it for a few mins while you brush your teeth. And voila, it's 'fresh' again. =)

Well, I have a retainer too and my dentist said that I have to wear it for the next nine months and trust me it stinks when I take it out of my mouth and it also tasted bad even if I brushed my teeth and flossed my teeth and I also used mouth wash and I did all that to the retainer too. Then I got tired of the smell and taste and so then I asked my dentist if this was natural and the dentist said that yes it was natural so I asked him could I fix that by any chance and he said yes I could so I asked how and the dentist said that all I had to do is pick a flavor I like and a smell I liked and he charged just $10 more to get the smell and the taste so now I can enjoy a great taste and a great smell of my retainer. By the way the smell and taste of the retainer I chose was Orange.
