Cracked tooth?

Question:
My back tooth cracked and now it stinks. (gross I know) I go to the dentist next week, but how do I help get rid of the smell until then?

Answers:
Besides keeping it as clean as possible with normal cleaning (brushing and flossing) you could try a mouthwash containing chlorhexidine like Savacol.

Other Answers:
Plenty of mouthwash & teeth cleaning, I suppose.
just brush
i'm not a dental expert, but try mouthwashing and try eating gum or mints... just try eating... it always works with the smell.
Mouthwash! seriously friend. First take around a teaspoon of salt and put it in about 8 oz. of water. Rinse with that first making sure you get it back where the cracked tooth is. That will help fight any infection until you get to the dentist. Then use a medicated mouthwash. Listerine or the like. But make it medicated to also kill bacteria. You must have some pain with a cracked tooth, so becareful when you rinse. After every meal you will need to do this. Food trapped in the cracked area is what is causing the smell, along with a possible infection. Just so you know...and hopefully save you a few $$$$, don't let them talk you into a root canal. Listen, I'm all for saving teeth, whitening and keeping your pearly whites, but, when a cracked tooth is involved and a root canal is needed......root canals, or I should say the crowns needed after the root canals will not keep food out from getting under the gum and into that fractured tooth area if your fracture goes that low. I have a terrible habit of chewing on ice. I've had 3 fractured teeth over the years. I didn't realize that food was getting in those fractures. My tooth became infected and I was talked into having a root canal. Around $700.00 for the root canal and about the same or a little less for the crown. This only lasted two years. Under the crown below the gumline, my fracture was still allowing food to get into a "now deadened" area. The whole time I was unaware of the infection because I had no pain. No roots.....no pain. The tooth had to be pulled. That happened to me 3 times! In all 3 cases I had the root canals, the dentist did not tell me the fractured tooth was hairlined also below the gumline. Make sure you ask how deep your fracture has traveled below the gumline or if it has at all. This should help you determine whether or not you want to have the root canal or just have the tooth pulled....(if it's way in the back out of sight) Hope this helps.
The smell comes from rotting food stuck in the crevice.
Unless you can get it out, it will keep smelling.
No amount of mouthwash of any type will kill the smell.
