Why do some people need head gear when they get braces?
Question:
Answers:
here's the real answer. a headgear appliance is worn when the orthodontist wants to restrict growth of the upper jaw or maxillary arch. some people have an overgrown upper arch or an underdeveloped lower arch or a combination of both. wearing the head appliance exerts a reverse force on the upper arch and restricts its growth in some capacity. this allows the lower arch to "catch up" to the upper for a more ideal relationship and profile.

they have an overbite
bcuz sometimes ppl have a worse over or underbite than other ppl or the only way they can pull teeth from way deep in their gumlines is from headgear bcuz it's a stronger adhesive that wont break as easily when its trying to puul the teeth up
I'm a dentist.
Headgear is typically used for growth modification of the maxilla or mandible..generally to inhibit further lengthening of either of them when there is too much of a discrepancy between maxillary and mandibular length.
