What's the procedure for getting a filling?

Question:
Because I think I need one and I've never had one before.

Answers:
As the dentist above described. It's not all that bad, I had 4 done earlier this week and I'm a total baby when it comes to dentists (avoided them for 10 years - hence the fact that I need fillings in practically all my teeth now). It can be uncomfortable holding your mouth open for a long time, but if you only need one filling it should be done in about 20 minutes. Once you're numb, it doesn't hurt at all, but the noise of the drilling is horrible, so take a CD player with you and turn the music up loud! You'll feel some pressure when the filling material is shoved into your tooth, but it doesn't hurt. Good luck!

I'm a dentist.

You are seated in the chair.

A cotton swab with topical anesthetic is placed over the area to be anesthetized.

The doctor gives you the injection.

He/she then waits several minutes to ensure that the medication has had a chance to reach its target nerve(s).

You are leaned back, and the drilling begins.

After the drilling is done, the doctor places the filling material.

After the filling material is placed and depending on the material used, he/she may use the drill again briefly to adjust the filling's shape and bite.

You placed upright again, and dismissed.

Sound easy enough? It is.
