i hate my crowns! can it be replaced by composite bonding?

Question:
the tooth had been shaved a little and taking the crown off would expose the tooth. would it be possible to just fill it in with composite resin until it resembles a real tooth?

Answers:
No, it's not recommended to replace crowns with composite fillings. If the crowns are not seated properly or the metal is showing, that would create an ugly look. There are some crowns available that do not have metal underneath. All porcelain crowns are very pretty and very functional. Maybe you should have them replaced wtih something like these. You'll love them later.

Other Answers:
I never had crowns on my teeth and thats what my dentist did with the composit resin and now my teeth are decinigrating after 6 or 7 years. I need crowns. I didn't get them because the dentist put on my braces and he couldn't put them on after I got my braces and when I finally got them off I got pregnant and hardly ever went to the dentist until afetr my son was born.

It would be like building a house without a foundation. The composoite would come off in chuncks. Like cavities of a real tooth..Crowns aren't' really that bad . In fact with a root canal they should last 20 yrs. Mine have. Never had but one repalced in the last 40. Composite bonding is for making a normal tooth prettier. If you already have a crown because the tooth was damaged or had a root canal on it, you cannot have composite bonding. If the damage tooth is not protected by the crown, it will disintegrate and you will lose it.

discount crowns?

No but you can have a better looking crown made.
Ask for the following
Porcelain margins, high noble metal, and have them custom shade matched at the Labratory.

Go to a dentist pay the price and have it done correctly, don't ask for discounts and get another bad looking crown. You'll end up paying more in the long run especially if your'e looking at you're teeth that closely. I had an old amalgam filling replaced because there was a cavity forming around it. I had the choice of having it refilled with amalgam or the white composite - I chose the composite only because I'm vain and you could see the amalgam when I yawned or laughed.
