The left side of my jaw keeps locking up on me. this only happens when i clench my teeth together.?

Question:
When I open my mouth after doing this, it feels as if there is a cord binding my lower jaw to the top jaw. it comes loose, but only after some slight pain. Is this exceptionally serious?

my dad is in the dental field and I'v heard him talk about this over and over and over again. I'm not exactly sure what it's called but I think it's called TMJ or something like that. Google it or something. It's when your jaw locks and it actually is pretty dangerous. Cause as you age yoru face shape changes so over time it will actually get worse and to the point where surgury may be necessary..actually it usually is necessary btu sometimes you can fix it with retainers. I would suggest going to see someone abotu this as soon as possible.
My wife has something similar, could be lockjaw. You probably want to consult your dentist or primary care physician and see if you can get a referral to a jaw specialist.

There is not a whole lot they can do about this condition, however if it is getting worse they may want to consider surgery, it is minor but will make a world of difference.
it sounds like you may have TMJ which causes pain in your jaw from clenching and grinding your teeth. It could lead to problems and is very painful the longer it goes on . Talk to your dentist and get fitted for a night guard so you don't do this in your sleep. You'll feel better and save your smile
you need to be evaluated for tempomadibular disorder. you will probably be told that you need to wear a night guard which will take some getting used to but it's worth it. it's not serious until it starts affecting your quality of life.which it will if left untreated.
