Why do some people have spacers before braces and others dont?

Question:
My Orthodontist never said anything about putting spacers in for me. Why is this? I thought everyone needed spacers before getting braces? PS-I am getting teeth pulled for braces, does that change anything?

Answers:
Spacers are placed between the back molars if your orthodontist is planning on placing bands around them. Usually the contact points are too tight to place the bands on at the first visit, so they will place spacers to push the teeth apart slightly. Not every orthodontist and some cases do not require the use of bands on the molars. Often, a bracket or tube can be bonded to the molar instead. Whether or not you will need spacers is based on your individual needs on that your orthodontist suggests based on what type of bracketing he/she will do!
Depends on what shapes and gaps your teeth have. Ask your dentist.
