will putting my own small rubberbands in my teeth hurt or damage my teeth or gums?
Question:

Don't do it, I have actually seen a case where a patient was putting bands around their 2 front teeth in the hope that it would close a gap. Sometimes she found that the band was gone and she assumed that it had fallen out. After about 6mths her teeth started to feel loose and she decided to come into the dental surgery to have them looked at. X-rays were taken and it was found that she had huge bone loss between her teeth - hence why they were loose, but even worse than that there was a funny looking sort of area on the x-ray. When the dentist had a closer look below the gum line in her mouth he found about 20 or more of those small rubber bands. - I have not seen her since to know if she lost those teeth, but there was a good chance she was going to loose them. Moral of the story - DON"T DO IT

Why would you want to do that?
nah you could swallow the rubber band at night. i will tell you this. it is a waste of time cuz i did it also...it hurts like hell and when you think the gap is closed cuz it will look closed, the next day after you take it off, your teeth will move back like they were before. its just a big head ache. my best advice is to go to an orthodontist and get a chain to pull them together. if you find a good ortho, they will let you pay in increments. good luck with your modeling...ps oh by the way, when i was little, i use to model and i have a gap also.. i was even rated top 5
Yes, you can do damage.
Remember, orthodontists go to school for approxmately 8 years to learn how to correctly move a person's teeth. And you think you can do the same thing with rubberbands?
You could end up ruining your bite and causing yourself jaw problems or worse. You could cause your teeth to become loose. there are numerous problems you could do by trying to fix the gap on your own. Talk to your dentist. There are a lot of options besides braces to help fix your gap if it bothers you. Just don't try to do it alone.
i doubt it would hurt your teeth but my gf did that when we were teens and as she got older- tho she had managed to close the gap- she ended up with her two front teeth overlapping.
Abusalutely, It will cause gum damage very quickly. We had a mother try in on her son and he lost his two adult front teeth.
