Are doctors allowed to sell prescription medications in their office?
Question:
Answers:
I've never heard of any doctor, dentist or otherwise, "selling" their patients medications. They can give samples of medications for the patients in case they need them until they are able to get to the pharmacy. Even if the cost is less, I would steer away from this. I think it's illegal. It's almost like charging the patient "twice". Check with the AMA in your state as soon as possible and find out if what he is doing is legal.

No, that is against the law! Report him to the AMA. http://www.ama-assn.org/
what the hell kind of doctor are you seeing? You should have asked him if he had any crack to go with it No but they can give free samples. Unless they have a license to sell them. And I think it's unlawfull for a doctor to write a prescription and sell the same prescription. There has to be checks and ballances.
hmmm, if they prescribe it and you are buying it with their prescription, I don't see why not. but I wonder if these are the free samples he's selling?
Not that I know of. I know they can give you sample meds though.
WHOAAA.he has to have a license to distribute and sell narcotics !! No.this is illegal. He is attempting to sell you the free samples the drug rep gives him. What a jackass.
No, that's illegal.
In Florida, it is legal for a clinic to have its own dispensary. A dispensary sells drugs. I suppose a doctor could do this for the primary purpose of making more money, but in every case that I know of the doctor provides this service for frequently prescribed medications for the convenience of his patients and to save them money.
So the answer is yes, if you are in Florida or another state that allows this.
nope, against the law, hes only licensed to do the surgery and write the Rx, hes not licensed to fill the Rx. Wow, most of you people are morons. Of course he can, why would he not be able to?
He is allowed to prescribe the stuff. and every oral surgeon I've ever seen has had the means to dispense the prescriptions right there in the office - and it is perfectly legal. I mean, they do SURGERY there. why would they not have drugs on hand? He's trying to provide you a convenience, especially if you're going to be under anesthesia. Do they expect you to wake up from getting teeth pulled and drive to the pharmacy and wait in line? No.
I am amazed at the number of people in here giving incorrect information. Stop and think before you go telling people false info. No if he fills a prescription and sells it he is acting as a pharmacist and that is illegal, however,he can give away as many samples as he likes.I wonder about the ethics of this doc
