$1300.00 there is the problem, thats too cheap.
You must have some kind of HMO.
Most dentist will tell you if the tooth may need further work. But maybe we can get away with a filling. We'll just have to see how the tooth responds. Every now and then a tooth does still suprise me and die for no reason that I can think of. so we usually do the root canal then the crown if all things are good for a few weeks.
Patients hate surprises so we try to cover all the possible risks when they are expected.

I ask that allot, and will and have refused to do a root canal. If its that bad just take the damn tooth. My family (mom and dad) have a history of going for root canals, that end up in pulling. It is torturous pain that was completely unnecessary in their case. Many people may be different. But if u notice a trend, stop getting root canals, and wasting money.
It is not the normal order.
IT IS A DENTIST`S ORDER.
I think it might be a common scenario.
I've been to my own dentist before and looking at my tooth he's told me that exact thing . "well, I could try to repair it, probably would take a root canal - that's around $1000. However, I honestly don't think your tooth is strong enough for that to hold up long. I'd give it maybe a year, then we'll have to extract it - that would be another $100. OR we can just cut to the chase and extract it now - your choice!"
I love the fact that my dentist is so 'matter-of-fact' with his clients and that he gives us options and doesn't just tell me what he IS going to do in my mouth (and to my wallet).
In your case - it may not have been obvious this would be the fate of this tooth - but sometimes (it seems) it could be obvious to a well seasoned dentist.
no it sounds to me like you need to change dentist!hes not doing his job right!the whole purpose of doing the filling is so he wouldnt have do do the rest!and when he did the root canal it should have been done right, the whole point of all this work was to save the tooth not lose it anyways!unless it was a front tooth that every one can see ,for now own just have them pull it,if you have to get a partial later its still cheaper that spending all that money to yet still lose the tooth!
