Should wisdom teeth be extracted before or during braces? I am getting all 4 out (2 lower impacted).?

Question:

Answers:
Wisdom teeth also known as third molars, make their arrival at different times. Generally they come in sooner for females than they do for males.

Most often, wisdom teeth are impacted, meaning they will not make it through the gums, and they should be removed whenever your dentist or preferably your orthodontist recommends removal.

It's important that impacted wisdom teeth be removed by an Oral Surgeon, as there are many nerves that can be destroyed causing permanent paralysis in the mouth, cheeks etc.. if they're not removed properly.

If there is no room for the wisdom teeth to come in, crowding will occur and therefore ruin the orthodontic work that has been done. That IS a costly mistake!! If you notice your teeth shifting at all, be sure to tell you orthodontist or dentist immediately. He/she will order an x-ray to see if the wisdom teeth are trying to come in and will make a decision as to when they should be removed.

Other Answers:
if they can be taken out definately before braces. this will make more room. Most times people get braces before they have thier wisdom teeth.

If the wisdom teeth are causing the crowding, I don't see why you'd leave them in there. I'd say pull them out and then get the braces.

Forget the teeth.Did u say it is a she(Dentist) I had mine done befor I got my braces and so did both of my kids.

I was told my wisdom tooth was impacted and would never break through the gum.. go figure, it did a year later and never shifted any teeth, I had enough space and I am glad that I did not jump to the Dentists decision just to " prevent pain that might happen"
