I need a root canal and a crown over my porcelein veneer? Is this the dentist's fault?
Question:
Answers:
no its not his fault most likely. nerves die in teeth for different reasons . not knowing the condition of the tooth before the veneer kind of limits what i can assume but if the other tooth was in the same condition prior to the original veneer, if either tooth had suffered trauma such as being hit or bumped.the other one COULD possibly someday require the same but don't get too worried yet.
a tooth can get decay around the margins of a crown but typically not if you take care of your teeth, brushing, flossing ect..
and if at the very worse- losing those two front teeth would mean getting bridges or partials not dentures.
Other Answers:
No, this is not your dentist fault. Your dentist can only treat the problems that you have, he can not make you take care of your teeth. The root canal and the crown are two different problems and should both be treated. It is very unlikely that the other veneer will need the same procedure one day if you take care of it.
Nothing in the body can be guaranteed, everyone reacts differently. One of the things that happens to teeth is that nerves die. There's no way to predict which ones will. I would go see a root canal specialist, and ask them to create a tiny access hole so you might only need a filling, not a crown. Ask the specialist what he/she would do if this were his tooth.
