I had a root canal today and am in a lot of pain. Has this happened to you?

Question:
I've had a few root canals before and they weren't nearly this bad. I have a golf-ball sized swelling on the side of my face next to where it was done. I've taken two Tylenol with Codeine tablets and am still in pain. I had to actually be taken back to the office two hours after the procedure. She numbed me out again and took the temp filling out. The dentist says the area was really infected and that's why it hurt so much. I'm not so sure. Should I get an x-ray from a different dentist tomorrow to see what she did?

Answers:
Same thing happened to me. Sometimes it is still infected even though the dentist took it all out, The anti-biotics didn't work since the bacteria had adapted to it. He gave me much stronger stuff which was working since swelling in face was going down.

But the anti-biotic was giving me bad headaches and I never get headaches so I stopped. I spent $100 to talk to a natural health expert on the phone. He is 70 and healthier than most 40 year olds. He told me to fast, drinking only water, and I did. It was totally gone in 3 days. It worked like magic. Fasting creates ketones, the most powerful appetite supressant. Site below has info on fasting with quotes by 8 MDs. Eating feeds the infection.

This also works with dental work near the root and then, 6 months later, the root is dying and gets infection. But with fasting it stops the dying and infection.

Sorry, I didn't have a root canal today, but hopefully someone will have.
No I take care of my teeth I work in a Dentisit office.
ouch..it is normal for sweeling and pain because they do some WORK there. If it doesn't get better in two days go back to the dentist.Ice it..lots
Nope.never had a problem with my teeth
it happened to me before so i ate more pain medicines till it went away
Didn't they prescribe you any antibiotics? Maybe you need something stronger than codeine for the pain. Don't suck through any straws. Go to a different dentist if you feel the current one is not helping you.
I've been there, know exactly what you are going through, and it does HURT like hell, You would be better off asking the dentist for a stronger pain med, Tylenol #3 dont do anything when you have that much pain, the pain you are feeling is from the infection through out your mouths soft tissue, and surrounding areas, they should have given you some antibiotics as well, depending on whether or not you have allergies to them , the pain should subside within 24 hours, which seems like eternity, but trust me, it will get better, Good luck.
My question is..Why didn't your dentist do an ex ray first to make sure you didn't have the infection before you started? However, taking out the filling will allow the infection to drain. You should be on antibiotics along with the pain killer. If you continue to have a problem, suggest that your dentist send you to a dentist that specializes in root canal work.
