surgery question?

Question:
i have to get my wisdom teeth out this summer. i was wondering what the procedure was like and the after part.

Answers:
How many are you getting removed? Are they impacted? I am assuming they are because you called it surgery. I had to have two removed, the two upper ones, and those were the only ones that ever came in. I had them cut out when I was 27!

Anyway, you will need someone to go with you because you won't be able to drive home. They will probably sedate you enough to where you are almost completely out. When you wake up, you may need a little help walking out of the office. They will give you pain medication and a water syringe for you to use to rinse the holes out after you "attempt" to eat food. The first two days were the worst. I was extremely swollen and in a lot of pain. To make matters worse, I am a smoker and that was next to impossible.

It is best to get them removed if they are causing you any problems at all or if they are going to in the future. Once it is over and a few days go by, you will begin feeling like your old self.

Good Luck

painful, expensive, then painful again
Make sure they give you some nice pills to pop till you heal.
It hurts like hell. they stuff your mouth full of cotton to stop the bleeding. they tell you not to drink anything hot to start the bleeding again and not to chew for a couple of days. But maybe you don't have any teeth left to chew with, lol.
i had it done about 10 years ago.. it wasn't bad. they gave me valuim to "sedate" me then they gave me versed, and laughing gas. i didn't feel a thing. I did throw up for a few hours afterwards, from the blood that gets in your stomach, thats the worst part. hey, you got a reason to take pain meds, and eat ice cream for a few days. or at least I did. oh, i did have to irragate the areas where he removed the teeth with salt water in a syringe, it doesn't hurt. good luck
I've had a tooth removed under general anesthesia and nitrous oxide. I recommend the general; it's icky feeling (and hearing) the tooth coming out.

You'll be in pain afterward--not just the tooth area but your jaw. Demand Vicodin.
Most of the time, they knock you out with good drugs and you wake up an hour or so latter with a bunch of gauze in your mouth, no feeling in your mouth and kind of woozy.

Then, they give you great pain pills, tell you how to take proper care of the holes in your head and don't smoke.

You'll be a little soar for a while, but follow the after care instructions TO THE LETTER and you will be OK.
they hurt
I had a bad experience with it .It felt like they was trying to pull my jaw out of my face and hurt badly after wards.but they said I had a very large wisdom tooth with 4 large roots and the norm is usually 2 roots they said its usually not that bad but I was the exception. good luck
it's extremely a zip to get through, dr.'s give you pain medicine, and before you know it a week will pass by. you'll see..also he will give you pain medicine before the procedure, that way, you won't be so apprehensive.good luck.

experience.
well they put an IV in my hand and put me out cold. when i awoke it sucked butt big time. Took some pills and went back to bed for the next 15 hours. after that it was ok. didnt have any horror stories to tell. Had all 4 done at the same time. Good Luck
They give you drugs that put you to sleep in like less than 2 minutes then they start with the procedure. Once you wake up, you are so groggy you don't know what is going on and have no control over yourself, so you may need to bring someone with you. Also, once you come home, you will just go to sleep, one you wake up you may feel some pain so take the Vicodin or whatever the doctor perscribes you. Eat soft foods and also make sure that you use the cleaning device they give you for your teeth so the food doesn't get stuck in your mouth, its really gross. It should be painless, and I hope all goes well!
Well I'm gonna get it done on 19th june. Will let you know after that. But it sure is expensive. It depends on how impacted your 3rd molars are.If they are not very impacted and fully grown in mouth, the procedure will be less expensive as well as less complicated. But if they are lying in bone ,it could be complicated to take them out, hence making the procedure more expensive.
About pain,if they do it under General Anaesthesia, the procedure should be painless
dont let people freak you out yes its depending on how much you can handle pain it may nt be to bad for you they will put you out and your mouth will be a little swelled you will have to eat light for a few days by light i mean soft foods etc plz dont worry you will do fine ok and if you do have pain they will give you something for it just remember rest is the best medicine good luck and dont worry everything will be fine
I had twelve teeth pulled out. They were baby teeth.. they jammed in with the other teeth. A person in my family got their wisdom tooth pulled out. that person said it hurt afterwards but only for a little bit. The procedure goes like this. first they numb u and give u laughing gas.. not too much though.. and then they give a sequence of numbing shots by the tooth. then they pull it out. and u don't feel a thing.. they put gauze and send u home.
once when u get home u change the gauze and tell u to rinse with salt water. and to drink liquids and not to suck tooo hard.. like through a straw. if u do. it will bleed even more.. u just have to rest the whole day.
they gel the area with numbing gel then give you a shot in that area. then pull it out. when i got mine done my mouth was sore but it really wasnt that bad it felt a lot better after they got them out. ask for pain medicine just in case though.
