You should not have a lot of pain after getting a filling. Often a tooth is sensitive after a new filling is placed, but it usually is not a lot of pain. If the filling was very deep, it is possible that it is close to the nerve of the tooth or possibly in it. If it is a sharp lancing type of pain that does not go away, call your dentist. If it is a dull sensitivity, try taking 800 mg of Ibuprophen every 4-6 hours for today and see if the pain begins to subside. It is also possible that the filling is High. You would know this when you bite down, you will feel like you are hitting that tooth first! Hope that this proves helpful!
you need to call the dentist there should not be pain with a filing it could be your bite needs to be adjusted or the hit a nerve while filling it
The best thing that I found out to help with the pain is a warm towel or how hot you can handle it. Lay down on the opposite side and place the towel where the pain is and it relief some pressure. Also, if that does not help take a pill that is for minor aches to help becuase you do not want to take too many pain pills.
If you have just filled your tooth and it has started paining, it means that your tooth needs root canal treatment done. See your dentist as soon as possible and have the filling removed. In a tooth which is a candidate for a root canal, closing the tooth by doing a filling on top of it only causes the infection to remain trapped within and leads to pain. Also, if your pulp was exposed at the time of cavity preparation, which is easily determined if no local anaesthetic is administered (obviously due to the pain) it can be resolved by doing pulp capping.
I believe that this must have been the cause in your case. Since an anaesthetic was administered to you before cavity preparation, any small exposure would go unnoticed, since it can't be seen with the naked eye, and you didn't feel the pain at that point. Only now that the anesthetic wore off, can you feel it.
See your dentist asap, have the filling removed and see if your tooth needs pulp capping or root canal. Meanwhile take some analgesic which contains diclofenac sodium, it will provide relief temporarily.
Good luck and God bless!
I had five fillings replaced recently (all at one time) and my mouth was sore for a week. SUCK IT UP AND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN!
Sorry, just kidding.
Take two tylenol and call your dentist. You will feel better tomorrow!
tylenol. don't exceed 3200mg per day or what is prescribed on the manufaturers directions. also ice 15 min / heat 15 min. elevate your head above your heart. hope this helps :o)
also, please take note if your tooth hurts when you bite down or eat. if so, call your dentist ASAP, he's probably over filled it and needs to take it down a notch. very simple solution to what is a VERY painful problem.
