I have had lots of horrific dental abscesses over the years. What causes them and how can they be prevented?

Question:

Answers:
They are usually caused by the teeth dying, the teeth are killed by deep decay or deep fillings.

Often the damage is done when you are young and it only shows much later in life.

The only real prevention is regular attendance at a dentist who can hopefully monitor any suspuious teeth and treat them before they become abscessed.

Other Answers:
just don't kiss nobody, don't share your silver, and see a dentist! Please!

brush your teeth. Somewhere along the line it will help.
brush and floss your teeth and visit your dentist every 6 months
You should clean your teeth every morning and night. Goggle your mouth before you go to bed with anti-septic mouth wash which may be available in the drug store. Visit your Dentist every year and clean your teeth by removing dental caries. If you are a diabetic patient, visit your Dentist every six months.
sharing your "silver" and "goggling" and kissing are not related to Dental abscesses.

Your tooth has a nerve in its center. When decay gets to the center the bacteria that caused the decay kills the nerve and your tooth gets filled with pus.

An abscess is just pus that squirts out the end of the tooth.

Stop abscesses by fixing decay before it gets too deep by brushing and going to the dentist.
Good oral hygiene, brushing twice a day for 2 minutes, flossing daily and a fluoride mouth wash, should prevent it from happening again.
