The reason I had to have a tooth pulled today was because the dentist said I had an abscess in the bone.?
Question:
Answers:
Yes of course, trust the Dentist, he knows what he's doing
Yes I've heard of the abscess it, it's like a kind of infection of a bacteria or something AND yes! it might spread to the other teeth if it is not pulled out.thank the dentist he did that.think where you'll be with that abscess still in your mouth
however, that was not the only choice(pull the tooth out), certainly he could have given you a treatment of antibiotics to avoid the pain and make it less worst, but eventually you'd need a surgery(realted with the root canal)to get rid of that abscess
Other Answers:
well if he could have fixed it the price would have been much higher ..to pull it is inexpensive. so he didn't take you to the cleaners.
yeah, trust him. abscesses hurt.. an abscessed tooth basicly means that the roots of the tooth are dead. the root canal should have fixed the abscess and alleiviated the pain, but if the tooth was mostly dead or decayed and could risk spreading decay to the other teeth, then having it pulled was DEFINITELY a good idea. The dentist should have given you an anti-inflammatory to help with the pain afterwards. If you ever doubt a dentists decision, get a second opinion.
Unable to answer without seeing the tooth & an x-ray. I would assume that he wouldn't have pulled if there wasn't a reason.
an abcess is an infection he might not have got all the root.trust him
Like the other guys said, it's hard to say without seeing the films. If anything, dentists are often reluctant to pull teth they think there's even a remote chance of saving. If I were thinking like a greedy mean dentist, you get more $$ for redoing the crown and the root canal versus extracting it. You don't see too many cases of people being dishonest for less money. If he looked at it and was that sure about it, combined with how much pain it sounds like you were in, it sounds like he dd the right thing. I'd go back and see him again and see what he gives you for an overall treatment plan. It sounds like you're in the hands of an honest dentist. Did he take any x-rays prior to diagnosing you? It's not completely necessary but if he did, ask him to take a look at the x-ray and you should be looking for a black area on the x-ray near the roots. It is completely true that is could spead to the neighbouring teeth and if that had happened it would have eaten the bone away which would cause your teeth to become loose and they would have to be removed.
