For dental professionals...chewing food?

Question:
Ever since before I can remember (I'm 23 years old now), I have been chewing food on EXCLUSIVELY the left side of my mouth. That's correct: I don't chew using half of my teeth (entire right side), and I don't know why. I've been trying to correct myself when I notice it, but it's not very often when I do.

My question is: in terms of DENTAL, JAW, and BONE structure, what sort of consequences does this have on me? I have noticed that my upper and lower jaws are misaligned with one another resulting in an underbite, but I can still chew food fine (on my left side). Also, how can I fix this problem?

Thanks for your help!

Answers:
I can't answer how you might fix the problem, but I can tell you that I think MOST people favor one side or the other for chewing. It's just the way we are made.

You might consult with an orthodontist about fixing things, if it makes you more comfortable about it.
all i know is that when u chew your food that you put stress down on your teeth and so if your chewing with only one side of your mouth that side with have more stress and wear on it. I have the same problem to. I'm not for sure what the later outcome will be from just using one side. i guess going to a general dentist and letting him look at it, he could probebly help.
