Is it usual/common for some people to have "Black" or dark colored gums?

Question:
I was just wondering if it is healthy for some people to have black gums. I recently saw a young boy, he was about 7 years old and his gums were BLACK and his teeth were white. Im sure it is not from eating candy or too much sugar. But,I have never noticed that before, I hope its not an ignorant question to ask, but is this some kind of gum diesease or what?

Answers:
It depends- was the boy not of Europeans descent? Many African American or darker skinned people can often have dark or almost black gums. It does not always mean there is some type of disease present. I am black and when I was younger my gums were pink, as I got older they got darker. Genetics. Also people with darker skin tones who smoke almost always get dark gums and their lips turn dark also. Hope this helps some..

its normaL!!

Some darker complected people, may also have more pigment in their gum tissue. What was his race? Was it everywhere? Yes it is normal, it is just that some people have more pigmented skin.

It's normal for African Americans to have black or dark colored gums, there is no gum disease. :)
Your question reminded me of when I was a 1st grader (I'm white), and my teacher was black. Well, when I noticed her hands on the outside were black, and her palms were white, I was so surprised to see this (this was a 6 year old talkin. LOL), so I told my mother when I got home, "Mrs. Gipson has white hands!" :)
