Answers:
Crest White Strips are great but what a lot of people don't realize, they're not for everybody. If you drink a lot of pop, smoke or drink coffee a lot, your teeth are going to stain twice as bad after you use the strips continuously than if you didn't use them. (i used to work at a dental office) As far as you gum, you should be fine, don't forget, the strips have chemicals on them and should still be used according to the directions exactly. i'm sure it didn't hurt your gum, but if any white spots appear on your gum, or swelling, you should get it checked out. Your teeth might be a little sensitive after using the strips, but that is normal. Be careful next time!

To truly whiten your teeth you need to see a dentist. The whitening strips will only work temporarily, about 3 months or so, then you start the process again, think of it as hair dye, it has to be redone periodically. It can be hard on your enamel. I have never heard of a gum reaction to the strips, though people can be sensitive to many things and not know it. See a dentist and ask about whitening proceedures and prices and effects.
on the package it does mention that the bleach irritates your gums and if this happens either stop using them or switch to putting them on once every other day.
How long does it take to complete a braces treatment?
I have used the ones from the dentist. Don't put them on your gums. I don't think your skin should come off, but the little discomfort when you do get it on your gums is normal. Are you rinsing after you wipe off the excess when you are finished?

Another way to clean my retainer?
What happened to your gums is called "sloughing", it is when the gums are exposed to an irritant such as the bleach and they react by having little parts of the already deadened tissue come off, like shedding. You need to make sure you only leave the strips on for a maximum of 30 minutes, 2 times a day. If your gums feel raw you may have a sensitivity to the strips, if they feel okay then continue with the bleach strips but rinse with warm salt water afterwards to help heal the areas of the gums that are getting irritated. They should be safe to continue using but when in doubt always have your dentist or hygienist take a look.
