Yes, and it wasn't pointless. My daughter's orthodontist corrected her cross bite and arch first with different mouth apparatuses and retainers. Then, as more teeth came in, the braces went on. The braces came off when she was 17. She is now going on 19 and has a beautiful smile and beautiful teeth. An orthodontist does more than straighten teeth. There are over bites, under bites, cross bites, small arches, and many other problems to correct.
