Tongue Ulcer?

Does anybody know the symptoms of a Tongue Ulcer?.is it normal for the two sides of the tongue to have purple color?..its not entirely purple, just slightly?please advise

You should not be too worried.
Yes it is normal for the side of your tongue to have some bluish or purplish coloration. This is due to the venous system under the tongue. The other thing you mention is that it is on both sides of your tongue. Cancer when it occurs very rarely occurs symetrically.

Either way you shoudl get it checked out. I get a couple of calls each year about purple lesions on the tongue its always been the veins. Most dentists can look at it and refer you to an oral surgeon if it looks suspicious. There is a simple dye test an oral surgeons or even some dentists have that can stain the cells to see if they have excessive DNA and is used to identify possibly cancerous lesion. It is painless and takes about 5 minutes.

Don't worry the odds are not against you, especially because you said it is on both sides of your tongue.
