Sent him to the doctor. Hopefully this one is fixable.
well, you dont start by telling them its been like it for 3 years! ask him in a jokey way what he has been eating..and take it from there
Goodness, that is a tough one. Sounds like a health issue that needs to be resolved. Maybe try saying something along the lines of his breath being abnormal and that you are concerned that there is a bigger issue behind it..I totally sympathize with you here, this is a tough situation.
start carrying around breath strips and offer them to him frequently. also, start making joking comments when he gets in your face.
I've had to tell men that I dated that they had bad breath. and the best way to let them know is just to tell them.

Switching toothpaste brands, flossing and visiting a dentist on a regular basis will help.

Some people just have stinky breath though.
If he is overly sensitive hint, like give him a bottle of scope or dental floss and smile your 14karat smile when you give it to him. Or tell him!! I think is more rude if you don't tell than if you tell.
I think that you will have to just sit down at a relaxed moment and just tell them how you feel. First do some reasearch on therapy for this problem. The introduction of cloraphil such as in parsely or in tablet form may do the trick. A good friend would understand your feelings and should come to appeciate helping them with what must be a major problem. He/she could speak to a Doctor about the problem as there are a number of possible reasons for bad breath.
you 'can' do anything you like, the question is, how do you face the fact, that you haven't done so three years ago!
suggestion: see if you can find the reason why his breath is
a problem for you now.
this is not about his breath, this is about you.
It would be a kindness to tell him. Wouldn't you want to know if you had that problem? Tell him he needs to talk to his dentist about it. In the meantime he should brush, floss and use mouthwash.
always carry the max amout of mints and gum and those thin little things that are hecka minty, but dont offer him any. everytime youre with him anywhere, (the store, mall, school, work, hanging out), chew on some gum or pop a few mints right in front of his face. do it as often as possible. he'll see you pop the mints and wonder if his breath stinks or not. just keep doing this untill he has that shy kinda embarassed look and asks you for a mint. then after that you can offer him mints without offending him.
I would do it by phone-that way you won't have to smell that bad old breath-go something like this-hey do you know who's breath smells like the a-- of a possum-it sure ain't yours bro-yours is more like the a-- of a rhinasaurasmas-it peels paint! it could not a fly off a fence post at over a hundred yards!makes babies cry!old women faint!for the love of God-do something-then of course theres allways a closepin.
Well it's really no easy way to do this, but put yourself in his place, would you want him to be honest with you?.I think it would be better if you tell him nicely that his breath has an odor and let him know that you still love him, and that you will even go with him to a dentist if he doesn't mind, he may just have a bad tooth. I mean you have put up with it for 3 years, don't throw it all away for something that can be resolved.
